The Story
Four months ago, at the turn of the millenium, the clocks rolled over and the world went silent. No bombs, no war... just a cascade of failures, because we depended on computers too much. Prague was evacuated and quarantined when it became obvious that one million hungry mouths staying in a dead shell - with no water or electricity - was a recipe for disaster. What's left is a city picked over by the remaining people who stayed, and you're one of them: a former tram driver holed up in one of the depots with a handful of survivors who don't fully trust each other.
You know the layout of the city - each tram stop and each line. You're no fighter, but you know how to talk to people and how to find things. Every district belongs to someone now and spring won't last forever, so better get that backpack fixed.
Planned Key Features
- Scavenging expeditions. Head out into the city by walking along realistic tram network made from real city maps, where every stop is a chance to find what you're looking for. But you better be back by sunset.
- Inventory tetris. Way too many items to pick up, a constant fight for space in the backpack. Base stash to unload all your precious loot. 90s nostalgia items everywhere.
- Random encounters. Meet other characters while out and about. Get good at reading body language in a two-round social encounter system where reading a stranger matters. Talk, bluff, or stand your ground. No combat system, but you can still get hurt. Adopting a dog might help with reading people better.
- Base management. You're no leader, but you can influence what gets built through your deliveries. Other characters in the base will have requests, and the fighters protecting your little colony need supplies, too. Outside, factions and individual scavs have their own goals and motivations. Your usual trader might be gone next week, when a rival faction takes over their district and establishes their own rules.
- Your tram is your home. You spent years driving the T3, now the iconic tram is your nest, parked in the depot for the rest of time. Furnish the interior however you wish.
This is for you if...
If inventory tetris is something you seek instead of actively avoiding, because the system in Dredge was perfect. If you felt This War of Mine or Impact Winter hit the spot, but you wanted to keep playing forever. If the world simulation from Dwarf Fortress combined with storyteller from RimWorld sounds like a great idea to you.
It's for players who like their survival games slow, grounded, and mostly realistic. No zombies or magic spells here. No chosen ones playing heroes to save the day. Just you, your backpack and thousands of unopened drawers full of spoons (that you might totally need some day).
AI usage disclaimer
I'm a software developer and use various GPTs daily. Including to write the internal code of this game, to make my ideas come true without wasting time on boring details like class definitions and interfaces. But I draw the line at generating images, sounds or music. They have no soul. This is a strange moment in time, with so many people doing boring tasks while robots are generating paintings and poetry...
Looking for creative people
As can be seen from the crude temporary sprites I have made, I could really use some help with the graphical assets. Maybe story, too. Get in touch!
